Our Need For Community

Our Need For Community

Our spiritual walk was never meant to be something that we experience alone. Matt Welch walks us through how we are not only created to connect with God, but also with people so that we can grow together!

The Definition Of Community

• a unified body of individuals
◦ an interacting population of various kinds of individuals
◦ a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Romans 12:4-5 (NIV)
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
Psalm 133:1 (NIV)
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
Community!……we have been specifically designed by our heavenly father for an internal need for community. Community effects every sense of health we can imagine.
Genesis 2:18 (NIV)
The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.
Christian community is the place of our continuing conversion. Its goal is that, individually and together, we should become mature, no longer knocked around by clever religious tricks, but able to stand tall and straight, embodying the very "fullness of Christ" (Eph. 4:11-16).
1) We Are Created To Connect With God

We are created to have communion with and connect with God on a regular and relational level.
Proverbs 18:24 (NIV)
One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Matthew 6:26 (NIV)
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV)
So we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day approaching.
2) We Are Created To Connect With Others

WE NEED OTHERS! RELATIONSHIPS REQUIRE INTENTIONALITY!
YOU AREN’T GOING TO KNOW EVERYONE, BUT EVERYONE NEEDS TO KNOW SOMEBODY. WE ARE CREATED TO CONNECT WITH OTHERS, LET GOD EXPOSE YOU TO A FULLER LIFE AS YOU BUILD RELATIONSHIPS!
3) We Are Created To Disciple Others

There is a cycle that we see in our lives as we grow with him
• Me Into God
• God Into Me
• Me Into Others
Matthew 4:19-20 (NIV)
Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him.
WE CANNOT LIVE FULL LIVES WITHOUT COMMUNITY! WE NEED EACH OTHER! WE NEED THE COMMUNITY OF THE CHURCH/MOSAIC!

• Are we allowing ourselves to commune with God and hand him over our lives?

• Are we allowing ourselves to let people into our lives so that we can experience that fullness of life that comes with community with people?

• Are we pouring into others?
