Even in the face of great difficulty we can pray for one another with joy and thanksgiving because of the assurance of God’s sovereignty and the fellowship in Christ’s affection

“Spiritual joy is not an attitude dependent on chance or circumstances. It is the deep and abiding confidence that, regardless of one’s circumstances in life, all is well between the believer and the Lord. No matter what difficulty, pain, disappointment, failure, rejection, or other challenge one is facing, genuine joy remains because of that eternal well-being established by God’s grace in salvation. Thus, Scripture makes it clear that the fullest, most lasting and satisfying joy is derived from a true relationship with God. It is not based on circumstances or chance, but is the gracious and permanent possession of every child of God.”

– John MacArthur –

Assurance in God’s sovereignty

a.God initiates the work of salvation
Salvation would be a wretchedly unsure thing if it had no other foundation than my having chosen Christ. The human will blows hot and cold, is firm and unstable by fits and starts; it offers no security of tenure. But it is the will of God that is the ground of salvation.
– Alec Moyter –

b.God continues the work of salvation
"The assurance God gives us not only guarantees the outcome; it guarantees too every experience of every day, for in all things God is ‘putting the finishing touches.’"
– Alec Moyter –

c.God completes the work of salvation
Fellowship in Christ’s Affection

Fellowship in Christ’s Affection

Koinonia - conveys a sense of commonality, solidarity, and shared responsibility among households or individuals.

“If you unite with other Christians on the basis of affluence, you will exclude the poor. If you unite along social lines, you will exclude those outside your own level of society, be it high or low. If you unite intellectually, you will exclude either the simple or the intelligent. However you do it, the witness of the church will suffer. How thankful we must be that God did not establish the fellowship of his children along these lines. Our fellowship is in the gospel of God.”
– J. M. Boice –
